If you have not yet done the first lesson please do it before this one.
In this lesson you will learn how to substitute existing images with new selections.
Step 1. Use the Help | Get Second Example Image item to get the example image. Just as in lessson 2 RansenScan will not be able to recognise the separate images because they are all jumbled together:
Step 2. Drag the mouse over the picture long wine label at the bottom of the scanned image. Make sure the selection large enough to include the decorative border. Just as you learned in Tutorial 2 hit A (or use this icon
Step 3. Now right click on the wine label sub image and rotate clockwise by 90 degrees it using the menu which pops up. (You learned how to do this in lesson 2). This is the result
Step 4. Imagine that you don't want the decorative border. Drag the selection rectangle sides so you exclude the border, then hit the S key (which stands for Substitute)
NB: Every time you hit the S the highlighted sub image will be replaced by whatever is in the selection rectangle.
Step 5: Now maybe we want a detail image of the wine label. Now, in the main scanned image, drag the horizonal arrows of the selection rectangle so it just encloses the flowers at the bottom of the wine label. Now hit the A key to add the detail as a separate sub image:
Step 6: If you double click on a sub image you will get the Sub Image Fine Tuning Dialog which you can use to change size and angle and other things.
Step 7: You can now copy any of the sub images to the clipboard using Control-C or the Edit menu. Then you can paste the images into any other application you please.
When you are happy that you understand this lesson please go to Lesson 4 which is about enhancing colors of old photographs.
