Repligator Tutorial 1 : Getting Started

(You may like to print this tutorial (see under the File menu of this window), it is about 2 A4 pages long)

In this tutorial you will see how to use Repligator to transform your images with special effects. (Later tutorials will explain how to have more control over the effects you choose).

Step 1) Open an image by clicking on in the toolbar. You can choose one of the images supplied with Repligator for this tutorial, for example Swan.jpg:

Swan.jpg

Step 2) You will be asked if you want to change the brightness and contrast if the image:

Leave the settings as they are, they are more useful for very dark images.

Step 3) You will be asked if you want to rotate the image:

In this case just leave it as it is and click on the next button.

Step 3) You will be asked if you want to crop (select part of) the image:

Again just leave it as it is and click on the Next button.

Step 4) You will be asked to choose an effect:

Select "Blue China" from the list, and click on the Sample buttons to find a new image which you like.

Step 3) Click on "apply filter" and you will get an image like this:

Blue China Swan

Repligator has chosen the Blue China effect and applied it to your image.

Step 4) Now, to get a completely different effect click on in the toolbar, (or push the F7 function key). Repligator will create another version of your image, for example:

Reflected Psychedelic Swan

Push F7 (or click on F7) a few more times to create a few images.

Step 5) Now you will select an image you like, and save it. To do this you need to be able to choose which image(s) you want to save. You can do this using the cursor keys on your keyboard to go "backwards" and "forwards", or click on the green arrows in the toolbar:

Sequence Navigation

If you click on the icon in the middle of the green arrows you will get a dialog box which shows you thumbnails of the images you have created. For example:

Sequence Dialog

Here you can use the cassette player type buttons to move backwards and forwards among the images you have created. Click on the image one you want to go to.

Step 6) Saving your image: Once you have found an image you want to save simply click on the Save Button icon or use control-S.
