Gliftex Tutorial 2: Draw Me A Picture

(You may like to print this tutorial (see under the File menu of this window), it is about 2 A4 pages long)

Step 1 : Run Gliftex, if it is not already running, and click on the Wizard menu item "Draw me a picture":

"Draw me a picture!"

Step 2 : You will get a dialog box like this:

Draw me a picture dialog

Read the words in the top left of the dialog box:

"Draw me a mandala using ZigZag, with the colors from this picture of Bristol Woods"

So go ahead and, by changing the selections in the combo boxes in the upper half of the dialog box, reproduce the command.

Step 3 : You need to tell Gliftex the size of the image, in the above example we have decided to go for a 400 by 400 pixel square image. Select 400 in both the "wide" and "high" combo boxes.

Step 4 : Since we do not want to use the generated image as a background tile for a WEB page select "I do not want" from the last combo box (just above the blue Gliftex icon).

Step 5 : Finally click on "OK ! Draw me the picture!" and Gliftex will create an image just as you specified.

Step 6 : Again, you can get Gliftex to make variations on the image by clicking on the blue feather tickle icon .

What have you learned?

1) The "draw me a picture" dialog gives more control than the blue lightening icon.
2) You can specify an overall form (layout, shape, for example "Mandala" or "Trellis" or "Random Dots").
3) You can specify how the form is drawn (or "interpreted", for example "Zig Zag" or "Graphic Leaved" or "Ribboned").
4) You can specify an image from which to create a color scheme for the final image, "Bristol Woods" for example.
5) You can specify if the image is intended to be "tiled" or not. Tiled images are for WEB backgrounds and textiles.
6) You can specify the size of the image in pixels.
7) You can "tickle" the settings with the blue feather button, just as in the first tutorial.
