How to convert "Code X Y" points to a DXF file Here we'll use the Open Office Calc program, but you can just as easily start with Excel or a simple text file of points. So, here is the starting point:
As you can see there are three columns in the file, the first is a code for the point, the second are two dimensional data points. The columns are black because they have been selected and now you must copy them to the Windows clipboard (use the Edit menu or the control-C key combination) Next you should run Pointor and paste them into the Pointor window. If you already have some data in the program you'll be asked if you want to add this new data into the old window or create a separate window. Choose "No, don't add to old data." Next you'll be asked to select the format using this dialog:
It is fairly obvious that this data is in the Code-X-Y format, or maybe the Code-Y-X format. Choose the one which suits you best. Normally tables which arrive from one Windows application to another use the Tab separator. (In this case from a Calc table to a Pointor DXF file.) Some countries (especially in continental Europe) use the comma as a decimal point, as shown above. Pointor allows you to choose which decimal point character to use, see the Decimal Separator combo box above. Click on OK e voila'!
Now, after you have set layers and text sizes and various other options you can save the file as both a DXF file or as a bitmap. There is a free demo and the here is the Pointor home page. |
