How to create kaleidoscope images from your photos

The easiest way (i.e. the way not to have to do infinite "cutting" "pasting" "masking" and "rotating" etc,) is to use a Windows program like this. Simply bring in the image and twiddle the dials till you come up with the kaleidoscope effect you want. Before that though you need to choose the kaleidoscope effect from the long list of filters available:

The above dialog soon after you bring in your image. Your original image is on the left, the kaleidoscope image on the right. You can view examples by clicking on the Prev. Example and Next Example buttons. If you find one you like click on the Apply Filter button, for example:

But wait! You can change the settings of the effect by double clicking on the image, or, in the initial dialog shown at the top of this page, clicking on the Fine Tune button. In either case you'll get a dialog which looks like this:

Maybe you noticed that we could see the original image unaltered in the center of the new image. That is because the mixing setting was set to "Elliptical Vignette" (bottom right of the image above). You can turn off mixing by choosing "None" in the combo box to get this:

Of course you can change the number of reflections, the angles and radius of the reflectsions and so on. There is a free demo so you can try before you buy. Here are a few more examples.

I did a Google search on "create kaleidoscope images" and on the second page of the search was the link "How to apply a kaleidoscope effect to your image." I followed the link and downloaded the trial; it turned out to be just what I was looking for (I needed to create a kaleidoscope image for a concert program cover)
